AFGHAN WOMEN BARRED FROM BONN CONFERENCE

Women have been almost excluded from the Afghan delegation at the next Bonn conference on Afghan futur. While all efforts are being made both by the US and Afghan governments to parachute Talibans to the Conference. We can share the concerns of Dr Massouda Jalal, who is a former Afghan Minister of Women's Affairs, head of the Jalal Foundation, and one of the leading voices for the empowerment of Afghan women, when she says that all the gains the women have achieved till now will be lost in no time, if women voice was stifled at such important International conference.

The International Community should be reminded of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 1325, which is binding on all Member States , which calls for representation of women in all conflict resolution and peace processes. Peace is not possible without active participation of this more than half of the population of Afghanistan.

Afghanistan cannot achieve durable peace and stability, while denying the women thier basic right to participate in the conference to highlight the problems faced by the Afghan Women and raise voice for the protection of their basic fundamental human rights as enshrined in the constitution of Afghanistan.
